Donkeys shutout the Pugs

The Bray-Doyle Donkeys stayed in the winning circle Friday, September 13, with a 48-0 halftime win over the Paoli Pugs. Donkey head coach Marcus Knight said he was proud of his team and the way they played on both sides of the ball. 

    “That was without a doubt one of the best defensive games we have had,” Knight said. “Offensively we ran the ball extremely well and kept the tempo up the entire game.” 

    Knight praised his entire team for playing well Friday night, but said there were some players that really stood out to give the Donkeys another win. 

    “I think Brian Cortez-Wiles played an outstanding game,” Knight said. “We moved him to Defensive Tackle and he made a lot of big plays on defense for us. Nathan Turner, Tyler Anderson and Weston Edwards did a great job running the ball for us, but I also have to give credit to our offensive line for keeping their blocks and opening up holes for those three to run through.” 

    One of the biggest stats that stood out to Knight was how his defense kept the Pugs to negative yardage.

    “We held them to -17 yards total for the night,” Knight said. “Our defense really did a great job of pressuring the quarterback and making stops in the backfield.” 

    The Edwards duo each had another interception Friday night bringing the total to nine interceptions between the two of them. 

    “Cody (Edwards) had another interception bringing his total to six for the season,” Knight said. “He’s been doing a really good job of finding the ball and being there to come away with interceptions this year.” 

    Along with the positives of the game, Knight said there were also some things the team still needed to work on.

    “We still had way too many offside penalties,” Knight said. “We need to get those mistakes cleaned up so we can gain positive yardage.” 

    The Donkeys have a bye week this week, and will travel to Velma-Alma on Sept. 27 to take on the Comets. Knight said it will be a tough matchup, but one he believes his team is ready for. 

    “We are going to have to be ready in our pass coverage,” Knight said. “They like to spread the ball out there and we have to defend well.” 

    The Donkeys are going to have to  work to send the Comets home with a loss and come home with a win next week; kickoff will start at 7:30 Friday, September 27.
