United Way of Stephens County 3rd Annual BBQ Showdown

August 06, 2020

The United Way of Stephens County kicks off their 2020-2021 campaign at halftime of the first Duncan Demon home football game on Friday, September 4th with game time set at 7pm. This traditional kickoff is paired with the 3rd Annual BBQ Showdown set for Saturday, September 5th from 12pm- 2pm at Fuqua Park where teams will compete against each other in multiple categories including meats, sides, and desserts.

“This is such an exciting event we host that gets people from our community involved in supporting our 13 partner agencies by participating in a friendly competition and tasting some delicious barbecue,” said Executive Director Helen Stewart.

The event cost for spectators to sample all the competitors’ food is $10 per wristband for adults and $5 per wristband for children 10 and under.

Competitive spots still remain for cooking teams, so community members are encouraged to grab friends or co-workers and form a team. The deadline to register is August 20th. “Some of our teams from last year are looking forward to a rematch for that 1st place prize and bragging rights,” according to event chair, Adrianne Arrington. If you are unable to have a cooking team, you can still show your support by becoming a sponsor of the event. We have multi-level sponsorships available that include recognition on advertisements and recognition the day of the barbecue.

“Our United Way’s mission has always been to improve our community’s quality of life by uniting resources in support of programs dedicated to helping people,” says Betty Beck, Chairman of the Board. “This event does just that,” continues Betty, “we are providing an outlet for our community to support these agencies while also bringing awareness to the services they provide to the people of Stephens County.” Representatives from our 13 United Way agencies will be set up with booths, selling drinks and desserts and sharing their respective agency stories.
