Bray-Doyle’s Dorman earns 1st Chair at SCOBDA
Several of Bray-Doyle School’s Band members recently auditioned for the South Central Oklahoma Band Directors Association honor band. Matt Lucas, band director, said 10 of the students made it into the SCOBDA honor band, and one of those actually earned a 1st chair.
“Judson Dorman made 1st chair junior high Euphonium. That’s a big accomplishment,” Lucas said. Dorman is a freshman at B-D.
The tryouts were held Nov. 16, at Waurika High School. The students who earned a chair in the honor band will attend the SCOBDA honor band clinic in Lone Grove, Jan. 6-7, 2023.
Bray-Doyle has 26 students in the high school band program (7th-12th grades) and 29 students in beginning band (5th and 6th grades). The SCOBDA auditions separate them into three categories: 7th grade, junior high and high school, Lucas noted.
Those who made the auditions are:
High School - Faith Ford, 3rd chair, Bass Clarinet (11th grade); Dane Martin, 12th chair, Trombone (10th grade).
Junior High - Kailynn Cox, 10th chair, Flute (9th grade); McKenna Renfro, 8th chair, Clarinet (8th grade);
Sarah Franklin, 9th chair, Clarinet (9th grade);
Alannah Fitzgerald, 12th chair, Clarinet (9th grade);
Judson Dorman, 1st chair, Euphonium (9th grade);
Lilyann Willoughby, 6th chair, Trumpet (8th grade);
