Alice A. (Adams) Martin (1936-2022) Adrian, MI

Alice A. (Adams) Martin, age 86, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away Christmas Day, December 25, 2022, at Charlotte Stephenson Manor.
She was born in New York City on October 13, 1936. She was a recent resident of the Adrian area, moving there about four years ago with her husband Don.

While growing up her family traveled and lived in many places including Rangoon, Burma and La Paz, Bolivia.

Marlow, Oklahoma provided a home base, which is where she spent much of her childhood. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in anthropology and getting married, Alice and her family would find their home in the Chicago area where she was a schoolteacher. She taught 6th grade in a public school in Illinois for many years. When she retired from that, she taught in a private school, retiring when she was 71 years old.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Don Martin, one son, James (Mary) Martin, who teaches at Adrian College; a brother, John Adams of Marlow; and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother, Alice (deceased shortly after Alice's birth), father, George, and stepmother, Dot; and son, Timothy Martin. Alice was a quiet, placid, tranquil person. She enjoyed reading and traveling and was a terrific cook. As an adult she loved to visit Marlow and see the many different houses she lived in as a child. She enjoyed walking around the town and seeing all the familiar places of her childhood.

Services were held privately with arrangements entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, MI.
