Martha Jane Sutherland (1940-2023) Marlow, OK
Martha Sutherland was born on April 23, 1940, in Paducah, TX, to Virginia and Wallace Norrell. She died January 6, 2023.
She was raised in the West Texas region of Delwin where she attended school. She left school and resided in Wichita Falls, TX, where she met and married Joseph Chapa Garza in December 1957.
While married, they spent their early years in Strawn, TX, and would welcome four children, Monica, Marcella, Michael and Matthew.
In 1972 they moved to Marlow, OK, where they would raise all their children. Martha and Joe went on to enjoy the growth of their family as their children married and welcomed six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Although Joe preceded Martha in death, Martha enjoyed the late arrival of two additional granddaughters.
Martha married Buford Sutherland in August of 2004. They enjoyed traveling together and always watching the Texas Rangers play baseball. Buford preceded her in death in January of 2013.
Martha would spend her later years residing in Paris TX, then later in Rush Springs, OK, where she was surrounded with many friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos every afternoon with her wonderful friends and spending as much time as she could with her family.
She is survived by sister Nancy Turner of Paducah TX, brother Charles “Sonny” Norrell of Ft Worth, TX, her children, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Norrell, father Wallace Norrell, grandson Jarrod Latimer and
great-grandson Leo Latimer Coast.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Leo Latimer Coast to The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders, PO Box 33238, Tulsa, OK 74153.
