Marlow Review Wins OPA Awards

The Marlow Review won 1st place overall for News Content Division 6 – Population between 3,000 and 6,000, in the 2022 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Press Association.

Managing Editor, Toni Hopper, and Advertising Representative Dee Dodson attended the event Saturday night in Shawnee. The paper also won two 3rd place awards for Sports Coverage and Advertising.

In the News Content category, three full issues from Nov. 10, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15, 2022, were submitted. Judge’s comments: The best-organized newspaper in this division. It has good balance of coverage including local government. Second place – Johnston County Sentinel and third place, McIntosh County Democrat.

Issues entered for Advertising (2022) – March 3, Nov. 3 and Nov. 10. The March 3 edition included the State Championship Coverage for Outlaw Wrestlers. The Nov. 3 edition included campaign advertisements for local judicial races. The Nov. 10 edition was the Veterans Day Tribute. First place went to McIntosh County Democrat.

Sports Coverage issues judged included Feb. 17, Nov. 3 and Nov. 10. The Feb. 17 edition featured the Outlaw Wrestlers at State and follow-up photos; the Nov. 3 edition included a football package highlighting the Outlaws securing a spot in playoffs, and a Cross Country package. First place in this category went to the Eastern Times-Register.
