Serving up the State’s Vegetable
July 27, 2023
Rep. Brad Boles, Marlow, and Rush Springs Watermelon Queen Lillyan Ball, serve plenty of homegrown watermelon at the Oklahoma State Capitol, for Watermelon Day, July 18. Ball’s task this summer has been to spread the word about the upcoming annual Rush Springs Watermelon Festival, which is Saturday, Aug. 12. Also sharing in the fun on the Second Floor Rotunda, were former state Rep. Joe Dorman of Rush Springs, who passed legislation declaring the watermelon as Oklahoma’s “State Vegetable” in 2007. Other Rush Springs attendees were Lillyan’s family, and members of the Rush Springs Lions Club.
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
