Great Plains Republican Women, an organization whose members come from all over Southwest Oklahoma (counties of Comanche, Cotton, Caddo, Stephens, Jefferson) held their monthly meeting in Lawton on Thursday, July 20.

President Patricia Carpenter, opened the meeting with a prayer given by the club Chaplin, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and the Pledge to the Flag of Oklahoma. She introduced the club officers and guests and invited everyone to proceed to lunch.

Following lunch, the guest speaker was introduced. Lorie Legere, President of the OKFRW, Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women. Lorie gave those present a history lesson on the organization's foundation and how we evolved into this huge national organization.

A big thank you and a bouquet of fresh flowers was presented to Lorie, by President Patricia Carpenter. Following the speaker, President Carpenter called on Wendy Zimmerman, Past President of the organization, to present the beautiful knitted Betsy Ross Flag throw to the winner of our raffle.

Bettie Cooper of Marlow won the raffle and flag. Cooper is a member of the local group. Monies raised from the raffle are used for various club projects, education, supporting pro life groups and Veterans groups. For more information, contact Mary Ann Holman.
