Rush Springs: Johnnie Franklin Conine, 75, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in Duncan.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2023, at Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs with Rev. Jerry Couch officiating, and Rev. Paul Phipps assisting. Stephens County Honor Guard conducted the military honors.
Johnnie was born Saturday, November 22, 1947, in Berrien County, Georgia, to Thomas A. and Gracie L. (Noles) Conine. He lived in Rush Springs for the last 26 years and worked many years for Marlow Roofing. Johnnie served as a proud member of the United States Army for 18 ½ years, which included a tour in Vietnam. His military service led him to live in Texas, Kansas, Alaska and Germany.
While serving in the Army, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Sharpshooter, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Johnnie married Sharon K. Greer on January 17, 1972 in Lawton, OK. He and Sharon celebrated more than 51 years of marriage together at the time of his passing. Johnnie enjoyed fishing, woodworking, taking care of his kids, other people's kids, and his chickens. He loved his family most and never missed the chance to spend time with them. Johnnie will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of the home, four daughters, Joni Koch and husband Greg, Lisa Robinson and husband Bill, Julie Cecil and husband Dwayne, and Daneen Barnes and husband Phillip; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas Conine and wife Katie of Jackson, GA, brother, Royce Conine and wife Jean of MS, George Conine and wife Karen of FL, and James Conine and wife Pat of Lakeland, FL, a sister, Jessie Lee Boyd of MS; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his many bonus sons and daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, A.C. Hester, and Lucious Bennight.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.
