The Ring of Fire solar eclipse took place on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023. K Kay Alsobrook was one of many individuals throughout the area who were eager to witness the celestial event. Many photographers also wanted to capture the event. Alsobrook’s image looks much like a crescent moon. That’s because the moon passed in front of the sun, and it caused the sun to appear like a ring of fire in the sky, but as it continued its pass, a sliver of the sun behind the moon then appeared to be a crescent shaped.

“I am in awe of God's creation and how it works together so beautifully. I have always loved astronomy and photography and thought it was a great opportunity to merge both of those interests. I also like a challenge,” Alsobrook said. Photo by K Kay Alsobrook
