Granville Gene Abney, 81, longtime Oklahoma City resident, passed away Friday morning, October 20, 2023, at the home of his son, Kirby in Elkhart, Kansas.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, at the Duncan City Cemetery. Celebration following will be held at the Patterson Ave. Baptist Church in Comanche. Gene's remains will be laid with his wife, Lamarlis Kay, in Duncan, OK.

The son of Carl and Mildred (Kitchens) Abney, he was born March 18, 1942, in Marlow, Oklahoma.

Gene graduated in 1960 from Marlow. During high school, he was an Outlaw football player, and was on the 1959 Oklahoma High School State Football Championship team. He was also an Oklahoma All-Star in 1960. Gene was a football coach and teacher for several years.

Surviving Gene is his son Kirby Abney and his wife Angela of Elkhart KS, daughter DinaKay Aker and her husband Judd of Piedmont, OK; grandkids, Joshua Abney, Kassidi Stitt and her husband Tyler, Garrett Abney and his wife Morgan, Christopher Aker and Caitlyn Clouatre, Krissi Aker, Dalton Abney and Abby Davies, Wayce and Stephanie Waller, Whitney Waller and Hadley Willey; and great-grandchildren, Brileigh, Baker, Axel, Caidence, Alexis, Maddison, Caleb, Brody, and Kaspen, Josalyn and Jillian. Brothers Larry Abney, Terry Lomax, and Michael Kitchens.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lamarlis Kay Abney, bothers Richard Lomax, Jerry Lomax, and Denny Abney.
