Summer Street Projects underway in Marlow

June 13, 2024

Street resurfacing project to continue this summer As you are out driving around Marlow this summer, you will more than likely discover some streetwork happening. In February, the council awarded a bid to Gorman Paving out of Oklahoma City for $580,813.50.

Gorman Paving has completed two prior projects in Marlow. One of those was the roads chip and seal project at the cemetery in 2021, and the other was the S. Railroad (Main St. to Caddo). This second one was under the Municipal Roads Drilling Activity Fund in 2023 and was paid for through the 1-cent sales tax renewed by voters in 2015.

This summer’s projects include multiple streets. On this list:

*6th from Caddo to Main Street, which will include two speed tables in the block between Arapahoe and Cheyenne for the elementary school

*2nd street from Memorial to Ballpark

*Jack Street

*Legion Street(both come off of 2nd being paved) and Legion will include some ditch work and a public private partnership with Eternal Life Church to put in a new culvert. Also on the project list is 4th Street from Gilkey to Jarboe, and 7th Street from Nabor to Payne

City Administrator Jason McPherson said that altogether, the combined projects include an estimated 3,125 tons of asphalt overlay and 284 tons of asphalt patching. All work was planned through the street inventory ordered by the city council in 2016.

McPherson noted that since the beginning of the 1-cent sales tax in 2017, the city has repaired and resurfaced over $1.5 million in streets. The city is also seeking a $500,000 project through the Municipal Roads. Drilling Activity Fund for this fall to repair and resurface 9th Street from Nabor to Caddo.

The city’s share of this project, if selected by ODOT, would be approximately $140,000
