Lone Grove - Funeral Services for Coach Dennis William Furr, 49, of Lone Grove are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday August 1, 2024, at Crystal Rock Cathedral of Ardmore with Rev. David Gardner officiating and Eric Edgar and Ray Miller providing the Eulogy. Interment will follow at the Lone Grove Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.

Coach Dennis William Furr, affectionately known as "Junior", passed away on July 26,2024, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born at Shawnee, OK on March 9, 1975 to Dennis Max and Marilyn Louise (Daves) Furr. Throughout his life, Coach Furr touched the hearts of many with his passion for coaching and his inspiring personality.

Coach Furr's career in coaching softball spanned across various schools including Plainview, Sulphur, Lawton MacArthur, Chickasha, Cameron University, Kingsville TX, Ringling, and Lone Grove. He instilled the value of determination in his players and famously coined the phrase "second place is the first loser." His dedication to the sport led to numerous accomplishments including winning six State Titles and achieving a remarkable winning record of 507-146. In 2016, he was rightfully inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame.

Outside of coaching, Coach Furr had a love for hunting, fishing, and noodling, often spending cherished moments at Lawana Forsythe's Ranch. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, always encouraging others to strive for success and never settle for mediocrity.

Coach Furr's proudest accomplishments extended beyond his professional achievements. He graduated from Marlow High School in 1994 after excelling as an All-State Wrestler and State Runner-Up. He further pursued his education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he earned a bachelor's degree.

In his passing, Coach Furr leaves behind a legacy of resilience and perseverance. He is survived by his loving sons Gehrig Furr of Marlow and Mantle Furr of Lone Grove; devoted father Dennis Furr of Pauls Valley; caring brothers Charles Furr of Wynnewood and Jay Furr of Lone Grove; as well as brothers from another Mother Gary Guthrie with wife Jamie and E.J. Forsythe with wife Lindsey, both of Lone Grove. Additionally, he is remembered by numerous other family members and friends who were impacted by his kindness and unwavering support.

Pallbearers are Gehrig Furr, Mantle Furr, E.J. Forsythe, Gary Guthrie, Jay Furr and Bobby Russell.

Honorary Bearers are Daniel Gore, Jim Gore, Ray Miller, Steve Pybas, Steve Wright, Mike Peck, Bray Forsythe, Derek Gardner, Logan Schaaf, Doyle Idleman, E.J. Edgar, Jared Willis, Richard Gore, Robbie Tolbert, Charles Furr and Bruce Harrell.

Family visitation will be held from 3 to 5pm Wednesday afternoon at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
