Stephens County Election board reminds of early voting and registration for 2024 Election

With the November 5 General Election right around the corner, Stephens County Election Board Secretary Shawnda Seely is encouraging all registered voters to verify their voting information using the State Election Board’s OK Voter Portal. 

“If it’s been a while since you’ve voted or you’ve recently moved or changed your name, now is the time to make sure your registration information is up to date. We want everyone to have a positive experience at the polls,” Seely said. 

The OK Voter Portal can be found at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp.

Seely said voters who have moved to another county or changed their name, will need to submit a new Voter Registration Application. Applications are available at the County Election Board or online at oklahoma.gov/elections. Most other changes such as mailing address or party affiliation can be made online at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp. 

Changes must be submitted no later than 25 days before an election. The deadline to submit any changes before the General Election is Friday, October 11 at 5:00 pm. Changes submitted after the deadline will be processed immediately following the election. Applicants whose registration forms are accepted will be mailed a new Voter Identification Card. Applicants whose registration forms are rejected will be notified in writing. 

Seely said voters who encounter an issue with their registration information on Election Day can always cast a provisional ballot with a signed affidavit. Provisional ballots are verified and (if valid) counted after the election, but before election results are certified.

The Stephens County Election Board is located at 1075 West Elm Avenue in Duncan. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Voters with questions should contact the County Election Board at 580-255-8782 or StephensCounty@elections.ok.gov . 

The Stephens County Election Board offers special services to military and overseas voters along with their spouses and dependents, making it easier for them to vote. All eligible applicants must complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) in order to access benefits. 

“We encourage applicants to complete the Federal Post Card Application, which is available through the government Federal Voting Assistance Program. The application serves as both a voter registration application and an absentee ballot application,” Stephens County Election Board Secretary Shawnda Seely said. 

The federal absentee ballot application is valid through two consecutive federal, general elections and must be renewed. It is recommended that military and overseas voters, along with their eligible family members, review their registration at least once a year to ensure their registration and absentee ballot application are current. 

Military personnel and their families should contact the Voting Services Officer in their unit for information. Residents of Oklahoma living overseas can obtain the same materials from any United States military installation and from United States Embassies and Consulates. Both parties can also access forms and information online through the Federal Voting Assistance Program at fvap.gov.
