Judith Judy Kay Shaw
January 08, 2025
Judith (Judy) Kay Shaw was born on July 14, 1942, in Duncan, Oklahoma to L.A. and Vera Howard. She passed from this life on December 30, 2024 at the age of 82 due to complications from Alzheimer’s.
Judy attended Duncan Public Schools until her senior year in high school. She then moved to El Reno, OK where she met her future husband, Gaylord D. Shaw. The couple was married August 27, 1960 after a long courtship. The couple was married for 55 years until the death of her beloved Gaylord on September 6, 2015.
Judy lived a life full of travel and adventure. She and Gaylord loved visiting new places. Gaylord’s job as a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist required the family to move frequently. Judy was more than happy to set up households in multiple states. In addition to Oklahoma, the family lived in Virginia, Colorado, Texas, and North Carolina. Upon Gaylord’s retirement, the family made the decision to return to her hometown of Duncan.
Judy was very active in her church as well as her community. She served on the condolence cook team at First Christian Church in Duncan, played in the bell choir and always volunteered for the Bean’O’Rama. She also served as a long-time front desk volunteer with Duncan Regional Hospital. Judy enjoyed spending time with her girlfriends playing farkle, canasta, or just having lunch and shopping.
Judy is survived by her son Randy and wife Donna Shaw of Marlow, Kristi and husband Rick Clark of Richardson, Texas, and Kelly Shaw of Richmond, Virginia. She has 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of which she adored.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord, parents, and brothers, Tom and Ken.
Services will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at First Christian Church of Duncan with Rev. John Wheeler and Arnold Nelson officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
