Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 5th. She was born on September 19, 1933 in the Bailey Community to Williard and Lois (Meredith) Brown. Mom graduated from Four Mile School in 1952. She met dad (Walter Clifton Whatley) while he was “pitching” watermelons for her dad. They married on April 26th, 1952 in Marlow, OK. They had 50 happy years together before his passing in 2003. They were blessed with two children Deborah (Debbie) Elaine and Darrel Clifton.
Mom worked as a sales clerk for many years. When dad passed, she began volunteering for the hospital auxiliary in both Grady county and Stephens County. Our family lived in Rush Springs until 1973 when dad transferred to the Chickasha Post Office. They lived in Chickasha for many years and made many wonderful friendships while there. On dad’s passing, mom decided to move closer to her family so she made Marlow her home for the last 20 or so years. She was an avid crocheter and enjoyed crafting with her grandkids.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton; son, Darrell; parents, Williard and Lois; sister Jimmie Ruth Pendley; brothers, Vernon (Goober) Ray Brown and Jerry Don Brown.
She is survived by me – Debbie and my husband Daniel Zellmer of Victoria, TX. Granddaughters – Brenda (Russ) Svetlik, Victoria, TX; Beth Svetlik, Victoria, TX; and Machaela Zellmer, Goliad, TX. Four great grandchildren – Ryan Svetlik, Riley Svetlik, Lena Svetlik, and Walker Svetlik. She is survived by sisters, Mary (Victor) Reed of Atlanta, GA and Linda Spurlock of Marlow, OK. Along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Marlow Nutrition Center.
Condolences may be made to the family at www.sevierfuneralhome.com
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
