Loren Kent Thurber

Loren Kent Thurber, age 85, passed away on March 31, 2026, at his home in Marlow after a long battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, papa and great-grandfather. He was born on January 13, 1941, in Bluffton, Indiana to George and Margaret (Peg) Thurber.
He enlisted in the Army and proudly served 22 years retiring in 1981 at the rank of Major. While serving, he did 2 tours in Vietnam and received multiple commendations for his service including 2-Bronze Stars, 2-Army Commendation Medals, and a Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Army, he farmed, raised horses and was a long-haul truck driver for over 30 years.
Loren married Brenda Mays on February 13, 1971, in Henrietta, Texas, and were married for 55 years at the time of his passing. Moving multiple times throughout their marriage, they finally settled in the Marlow/Rush Springs area in 1987 and remained there until his passing.
His hobbies included reading, fishing, raising Quarter horses and later Percheron and Friesian draft horses, and sitting on the porch drinking coffee with Brenda. Loren and Brenda especially loved traveling in their motorhome. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. He loved showing pictures of their travels, their horses and his family.
Loren is survived by his wife, Brenda; son Charles both of Marlow, daughter and son-in-law Tina (Wayne) of Rush Springs. Grandchildren Triniti of Billings, Montana; Kylie of Mustang Oklahoma and Cason of Antlers, Oklahoma. Great-grandson Beni of Billings, Montana. A sister and brother-in-law Linda (Dante) of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents. Brothers-Richard, Marcellus, Russell, William and James. Sisters-Josephine, Mildred, Nancy, Loretta, Sharon and Susan.
No services will be held at this time. Loren wished to be cremated and after Brenda passes their ashes will be spread together.
