Marlow Patio Club breaks for the summer

May 21, 2026

The Marlow Patio Garden Club closed out their physical year on Thursday, May 14, with a meeting held in the conference room of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The group will reconvene on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Garland Smith Public Library.

The meeting began with roll call by asking each lady to say her name and something she enjoys doing. Those present included Sandy Alexander, Dina Atnip, Suzanne Buckley, Drenda Cobb, Lynnita Conway, Bettie Cooper, Annette Davis, Janel Domurat, Judy Glover, Annette Halson, Cricket Holland, Kathy Malcom, Barbara McCarver, Debra Tupin, Michelle Wax, Linda Williams, and guests Julie and Naomi Schauvliege.

Mrs. Cooper, who serves as president, informed the ladies of a recent road trip to Arbuckle Fried Pies and Bedré Chocolates in April. She also mentioned an upcoming Wildflower Workshop being hosted by the NW District in Guymon on May 29 and 30, as well as a trip to Lavender Ridge on June 5. The trip is being sponsored by the Walters Dahlia Garden Club.

During the new business session, the club voted to purchase a State Lifetime Membership for Susan Ferguson, who has been a member for many years. Other business included the sale of yard signs, which is a project of the Garden Club President’s Ways and Means project. The signs sold for $20 each.

For the program, Mrs. Cooper distributed papers with gardening words in one column and definitions in another. Members were given time to match the words with the definitions while also enjoying snacks of cookies and small cakes.

Mrs. Atnip, who was in the process of coordinating a flower show for the club, had to postpone it because of an injury. Since several entries were already entered and displayed, she suggested the group continue with the judging portion of the show. Winners were:

  •  Kailynn Cox — 2nd place, Drought Resilient Plants Exhibit; Summer Breeze Tray, 3rd place; Horticulture, “Soaking Up Summer,” 1st place; Mother of Thousands succulent spider plant, 3rd place.
  •  Kyson Cox — Water Conservation Exhibit, 2nd place; Horticulture, Zebra Plant succulent, 3rd place; Snake plant, 2nd place; Spider plant, 3rd place.
