UNcommon Sense: Community
This past weekend, our district hosted the Class 3A West Wrestling Regional Tournament. Over 30 schools participated in the event which brought hundreds of athletes to compete and a couple thousand fans to watch. Proudly, our Outlaw wrestlers backed up their recent Dual State Team Championship by winning this weekend's Regional Championship. Not to be outdone, our community won as well.
We are very lucky to live in a community where those who live here are always so quick to step up and help. While this weekend's event was a school event, there is no way we could have pulled it off without the numerous volunteers who helped. These volunteers worked side by side with our faculty and staff to plan, set up, run off, and clean up the event. Friday and Saturday alone were over 12-hour days for most of those involved. In all, we easily had over 75 people who worked to make the tournament happen. This
community pride culminated with the coaches and wrestling team celebrating their latest championship by staying afterward to help pick up and put up all the items that had been used in the Outlaw Gym. It is pretty uncommon to see that kind of work ethic and community pride on display these days, but not so here in Marlow. A school is only as good as the people who attend and work there. The same can be said of a town.
Marlow may not be big in population, but after what I was able to witness this past week, we are certainly big in community involvement. From individuals who worked long hours each day, to the business owners who helped us with food and even a refrigerated truck to keep the drinks cold - you all helped our school win this weekend. I heard from numerous coaches and visitors with how great the tournament was run off and how great their experience was visiting our town. Our willingness to pull together and do what needs to be done is what makes our town so special. Thank you to all of you who donated your time, resources, finances, equipment, and encouragement. We could not do it without you.
