"The biggest reasons we were able to overcome a mental hurdle was our commitment to the weight room and being "Marlow" kids. Marlow has had resilient kids for a long, long time. I've witnessed it watching Coach Newby's teams and I'm sure Coach Pickett before my time."
Weber said the entire roster of 63 "has a hand in where we are at now." "The biggest thing going forward is knowing that was not our goal on Friday. We have bigger aspirations and our kids understand we have to get better on a daily basis or that will be the highlight of our season."
This week, the team takes on Pauls Valley at home in Outlaw Stadium. It will be the 44th] meeting between the two teams, dating back to Oct. 15, 1926. Marlow has won the last three games against this week's opponent, including a 29-14 win in 2022. Weber was coach of PV from 2015-17 (3 seasons) and had a 15-19 record and 3 playoff appearances. Dusty Raper is in his 6th season at Pauls Valley as coach, and he is a former Marlow assistant and coached under Weber both at PV and Marlow.
"Going forward we have a juggernaut of a district. We face a contender this week in Paul's Valley. They are 3-0 and have defeated 3 really good football teams. They are so well coached and have good football players. Like always, we will worry more about ourselves and be ready to go on Friday."
Marlow will play at Lone Grove, Friday, Sept. 29.
